Untold Stories: Southwest Florida History Lesson Plans

WGCU Public Media is pleased to provide lesson plans for the Untold Stories television series. Each lesson is easy to use and includes an anticipation guide, reading and writing exercises, a vocabulary list and additional activities.

WGCU-TV began producing the Untold Stories series in 2003. Community by community, WGCU has interviewed scores of Florida natives, local historians and community icons. The station has visited dozens of communities and used hundreds of historical photographs. The programs focus on the cities, towns, people and industries that have shaped Southwest Florida.

The template for the lesson plans was created by a group of teachers and volunteers from Charlotte, Lee, Collier, Hendry, Glades and DeSoto Counties.  Sunshine State Standards notations for Language Arts and Social Studies appear on each lesson plan. Many activities can also be adapted to address additional standards.

For additional information or to comment on the lesson plans and programs, please contact Paula Sklodowski at psklodow@wgcu.org or (239) 590-2510.
