Car

Support WGCU Public Media’s quality programming and valued community services by donating a vehicle through our Give-A-Vehicle/Vessel Program.

It’s easy to donate your used vehicle, truck, RV, boat, jet ski--to WGCU Public Media.

  • Call our toll-free number 1-877-GIVEWGCU (1-877-448-3942)
  • Email us at donate@charitableautoresources.com
  • Fill out the form below to notify us of your interest to donate.

As our thanks, vehicle donors receive a one-year membership to WGCU Public Media!

What You Will Need When We Call You or You Call Us

As of January 1, 2005, the value is determined by the gross proceeds from the sale of the donated vehicle. You no longer have the burden of determining the value yourself.

The process is very easy... we would need basic information from you from your title and some additional contact information.

  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or vessel number
  • Title Number or vessel registration number
  • Mileage or hours
  • Year, Make, Model
  • Address where the vehicle or boat is
  • Home Address
  • Two phone numbers where the tow company can try to reach you

FAQs About WGCU's Give-A-Vehicle/Vessel Program

Does my vehicle/vessel have to be running to qualify for donation?
No, the vehicle/vessel must have an engine and be towable. A vehicle/vessel in extremely poor condition may be declined if the cost of towing the vehicle is more than its value. Call our customer service representative to find out if your vehicle qualifies.

What paperwork do I need?
Just the signed, clear title (pink slip). (Please note: a clear title indicates the title is in the name of the donor without a lien.)

What if I lost the title (pink slip)?
You will need to get a duplicate title and call us when you have received it.

Will I receive a receipt for my donation?
Yes, you will be given a receipt for your charitable contribution at the time of pick-up. This is not your final tax receipt. The tow receipt will indicate your name, the year, make, model and the condition of the vehicle/vessel you are donating.

A tax receipt with our Federal ID number will be mailed to you within 60 days of the sale stating the amount of gross proceeds from your vehicle/vessel. This will be your receipt for your charitable contribution.

What can I claim as a deduction?
According to the tax law effective January 1, 2005, if the claimed value of the donated vehicle/vessel exceeds $5000, the taxpayer is limited to the gross proceeds of the sale.

What if my vehicle/vessel is valued over $5000?
You will no longer be required to have your vehicle/vessel appraised. The value you may claim will be the amount of gross proceeds received from your vehicle/vessel.

Donors can claim the sales price of the vehicle as a deduction on their itemized tax return. You will be sent a tax receipt with this amount when the vehicle/vessel sells.

What do you do with the vehicles?
The vehicles/vessels are sold at a private wholesale auction. Funds from vehicle/vessel donations help WGCU Public Media acquire and produce quality educational and entertainment programs on radio and television, and support our outreach efforts in the community.

How quickly can my vehicle be picked up?
Vehicles/vessels will be picked up at a time that is convenient for you. To find out what times are available in your neighborhood, call our representative at 1-877-GIVEWGCU (1-877-448-3942).

I donated my vehicle/vessel several weeks ago but have not received notification of my complimentary membership. When should I expect to receive it?
Often it takes a few weeks from the time your vehicle/vessel is picked up to the time WGCU Public Media receives notification of your donation. Your subscription to expressions magazine should start approximately eight weeks from the date you donate your vehicle to WGCU Public Media.
