WGCU thanks Avow Hospice for serving Collier County for 25 years and for supporting WGCU Public Media.
Avow Hospice is headquartered in Naples, Florida but serves all of Collier County. The agency cares for people of any age, suffering from any terminal illness. Not-for-profit and community oriented, Avow Hospice keeps individuals and their unique life stories at the heart of its mission. Where other hospices see “patients” or “profit centers,” Avow Hospice sees “people” who deserve skilled, tender, individualized care at end of life.
Avow Hospice treats people wherever they live, offering the services of physicians, nurses, chaplains, social workers, home health aides, complementary therapists and volunteers to its clients. It also has the only Hospice House in Collier County – a homelike facility offering inpatient-level care for those needing short-term, specialized caretaking. Family members can also turn to Avow Hospice for professional, compassionate guidance and assistance in coping with the loss of their loved one. For children experiencing grief, Avow offers the services of a psychologist who specializes children’s bereavement and healing.
Committed to being Collier County’s resource for grief, loss and care-giver support, Avow offers no-cost support groups and individual counseling for anyone suffering a loss or care-giving concerns. Avow also has a variety of programs for pet parents who either want to participate with their pet as hospice volunteers or who need support at the end of their pet’s life.
Established in 1983 to give Collier County a compassionate alternative to traditional end-of-life care, Avow Hospice has grown from a mostly volunteer organization to a thriving community resource employing almost 200 professionals. Its programs and campuses have expanded throughout the county to meet the changing needs of Collier’s citizens. As it begins its 26th year of service, Avow Hospice reaffirms its commitment to "fulfilling life’s promises, one person at a time.sm"
